Downtown Development Authority Concept
The Village of Brooklyn is in the beginning stages of
creating a Downtown Development Authority (DDA). A DDA
is a public entity that provides a variety of funding
options to an appointed board of downtown stakeholders
for the purposes of funding public improvements to the
downtown district. These authorities are very prevalent
throughout Michigan and have assisted the redevelopment
of small downtowns all across the state. Without a DDA
the Village is unable to apply for programs and grants
provided by the State of Michigan to aid redevelopment
and economic growth within business districts.
→ A public
hearing will be held on May 12, 2008.
